I have become completely addicted to making ear warmer headbands. In fact, no one should have as many ear warmer headbands as I do. Not someone who lives in the South. Either way, today I am going to share with you my DIY Crochet Ear Warmer Headband Tutorial.
Easy Ear Warmer Headband
I have been making these headbands left and right! I was so excited to be spending a week in Colorado, and with the temps being much colder there, I had to make sure and keep my litter ears warm!
Realize that I have basically become addicted to making these now, and you will probably see several more versions on these Ear Warmer Headbands soon.
Why do I love to make these headbands so much? They are quick and relatively easy once you get the looping. I enjoy making these in all different colors and patterns.
DIY Ear Warmer Headband
What I used to make my DIY Crochet Ear Warmer Headband:
- a rectangular loom
- super bulky (6oz.)in Graphite from Yarn Bee
- loom tool (hook)
- needle
- scissors
- measuring tape
- crochet hook
While this looks like a “big list” of supplies, it really isn’t. The main things you will use for this project are the loom and the looming tool (hook).
How to Crochet a Headband
Instead of trying to take pictures and possibly confuse you along the way, I have decided to make a video tutorial to share the technique on how I made this ear warmer headband. Check it out below.
Once you get the hang of this technique, you can bet you will probably dish one of these out in an hour. That’s a pretty good time for a project!
There are also a ton of fun little variations you can do with this project. I have seen several patterns for doing these headbands by hand, but I crochet almost as well as I sew, and the loom helps me out tremendously. If you were a super crafty crocheter you could probably whip one of these out in less than an hour, but I am a bit average.
Make sure to check out the video above, and I hope you find it easy to follow and will be making some of your own headbands soon. Enjoy this DIY Crochet Ear Warmer Headband Tutorial and let me know what you think!
Ear Warmer Variations
- faux fur headband
- felt headband
- minky headband
You can also break out the embroidery machine and add some monograms to your headbands. There are lots of fun ways you can make these.

Thanks, and I am lucky it wasn’t 90 here in Louisiana, ha! We’ve been feeling the cold, too. Brrrr….
Michelle says
I wonder how this translates to knitting… they would be great gifts for my daughter to make! Perhaps for me?
Jennifer says
Actually, since I used a loom for this, I guess it is technically a knitting project, LOL. I only used the crochet hook to remove the headband from the loom.

This might be my favorite. Would it be too loud to make one in rainbow colors?
Tess says
That is an uber cute headband. Nnow, I wantto learn how to knit so I can have one!
Jennifer says
Oh, you should totally make one! I can’t tell you how many of these things I have, it’s borderline crazy. If you watch the video, you can make it!!

Would this work with only 5 pegs if I wanted to make a narrower version? Or do I have to have an even number of pegs?
Jennifer says
It would work with only 5 pegs as well. I have made a smaller version and it looks just as good!
Gayle says
As the loom is a new tool to me I am so grateful for the clear instructions. Keep smiling! Gayle
Renee says
What size loom did you use for the headband?
Jennifer says
I used a regular scarf loom (rectangular) but only used a few rows of pegs, just enough for the width I was wanting to create.
