I have so many fond memories of Christmas, and my earlier Christmas memories are from when I was in Germany. My father was in the military and we were stationed at an Army base. It was cold, snowing, and Christmas cheer was in full gear. I remember even looking into the sky and seeing Rudolph lead the way for Santa during the night. (Now that I am older, I realize it was probably the red flashing light of an airplane, but the kid in me still has to wonder.) The things that stand out the most are the way the cold felt on my skin, how my hair was damp with snow, and how excited I would be every day to get home and open another door on our family’s advent calendar.
I love to think back on all of my childhood Christmas memories. I really enjoyed growing up in Germany and having that be the very first set of Christmas memories. We even celebrated St. Nick’s Day and left our shoes out in the hall for candy.
When I got older, we moved back to the United States and I spent a lot of my youth in Maryland. It was another amazing experience because we always had a beautiful white, snowy Christmas. While everything seemed to change, the one thing I could count on was our family advent calendar where we eagerly counted down the days until Christmas.
Those memories are what inspire me to keep the tradition going. This year I am doing it with a new Adent Calendar from Balsam Hill. This beautiful calendar sings different music when you open up the doors. (Which I keep full of chocolate candy!)
Now through the 23rd of December, Balsam Hill is having a countdown to Christmas was 24 bloggers. (I’m in the middle!) So make sure you check out all of the amazing calendars and posts that are associated with this countdown to Christmas.
