Just like learning to ride a bicycle, Arm Knitting can be a little shaky at first until you master a few little steps. I have had a lot of questions since I created the DIY Arm Knitting Infinity Scarf post. Unlike learning to ride a bike, you can actually pick this up in a few minutes if you take your time. Today I am going to share with you Arm Knitting – Learning the Basics.

Arm Knitting

If you have been stuck with the slip knot, with casting on, with keeping stitches straight, with how to bind off, then this is the video for you. This video is going to show you exactly how to get started with Arm Knitting. Once you have all of these steps down, you are going to be Arm Knitting projects left and right. There are so many fun projects to make, but until you get these basic steps down, you are going to be frustrated. That’s why I made this video, to help take all of that frustration away and to show you how to Arm Knit in a few simple steps.

Arm Knitting Infinity Scarf Tutorial With Video

Learn how to Arm Knit

While Arm Knitting is one of the coolest and fastest ways to knit a great scarf or other project, it can be a little daunting if you have never done it before. In this tutorial you will learn how to get started, how to keep the stitches straight, and how to stay away from knots.

Arm Knitting – Learning the Basics

That’s why I am following up with this video that hopefully shows you a much better angle, and hopefully much better lighting this time. (Yes, using my iPhone to make the first video with no lights on probably wasn’t the most ideal condition for me to teach anything.)

However, I have been reading the comments from my original Arm Knitting Infinity Scarf post, (and responding to some when time allows), and I am seeing a common thread as far as what the issues are. If you are finding this post and this video before trying Arm Knitting, then you have very well skipped ahead in the game and should be able to make whatever your heart desires after you have watched this.

My guess is (and I bet) the majority of people who are having issues just need to see a better picture – a better explanation – and a slower talk track. Those were all of the issue I have found in so many of the instructional videos, and this one will help you understand everything much easier.

Arm Knitting

Just remember –  ARM KNITTING – LEARNING THE BASICS  – I am just showing you a few of the basic skills to help you get started – as well as finish off your future projects. This is not an actual project.

In this video I will show you how to do all of these things:

  • Make the slip knot
  • How to “Cast On” your arms with the yarn
  • Move from one arm to the other (and have straight stitches)
  • Keep your stitches even and straight
  • How to “Cast Off” or “Bind Off” your arms at the conclusion of your project

Once you feel comfortable with the Arm Knitting, make sure start tackling a few fun projects. Why not try and make yourself an Infinity scarf! You can find a tutorial on how to make an infinity scarf here. I hope this video Arm Knitting – Learning the Basics  has been a big help!

Thank you so much for your video!!!! I looked at several different ones and yours was the first time I “got it”. I have made two for myself, one for my daughter, one for her teacher and another for a co-worker! I am hooked! I made one at lunch yesterday. What great gifts!

Your video was great I totally understood it but I am having a difficult casting off to end and connecting the two ends.
