 1. Choose your domain name

Probably the best part of starting a blog is deciding on the name that best suits you and your amazing ideas. I went a little different route and chose PinkWhen, (which you can learn the WHY behind my name by reading this post) and then I chose my hosting company. Here is why Bluehost is a great option for new bloggers.

Choose the plan you think will fit you and your needs the best. I would suggest the starter plan for a new blog adventure. You can always upgrade later when you start growing.

Once your plan has been decided, let Bluehost help you see if your chosen domain name is available.

2. Choose Your Host

Now that you have your site chosen, it’s time to decide on a hosting company for your new blog.

Choosing your host is like choosing the office space you want to occupy. It’s paying for the portion of the web where your site will live and breathe. Your blog may very well be your business soon, so choosing the right host is key.

 3. Install WordPress

Bluehost makes this process easy! Just follow along with the video below.

4. Pick Your Theme

This process is really fun. There are so many different options, and this is what makes your blog – YOUR BLOG. It’s all about design and details and what you love the most. For instance, I have changed my design up a few times since I started blogging. I just recently had my blog completely re-designed to something I think I will keep for a very long time. I have a customized version of the Tasteful Theme! You can find even more options here.

5. Write a POST and HIT PUBLISH

Once you have your new theme installed, it’s time to think of a post and publish it. This is one of the most gratifying things you will ever do. After all of your hard work and choices, hitting publish on that first post feels like such an amazing accomplishment. It should, because it is! Bluehost makes building a blog easy, but writing a post is all up to you.

6. BONUS!!

I wrote a book on how to start a blog in 2014. It is an eBook compilation of about 2 years of work condensed to help you FAST TRACK the world of blogging. You can find it on Amazon for $7.99, but if you decide to start a blog with my Bluehost affiliate link, I will send this eBook to you for FREE!

Just send me an email with your new Bluehost blog to contact@pinkwhen.com and I will send you my eBook “So You Want To Start A Blog?” for free. (I LOVE new blogging buddies – and I host a link party with 5 other ladies where we like to feature our favorite blog posts and I would LOVE to see you there.) This eBook has information to help you for your first year in blogging. It covers:

  • starting your blog
  • social media (who,what,when,where,why)
  • branding
  • claiming your site with Google
  • SEO
  • Keyword Planning
