Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is one of my favorite winter recipes to make in the Crock Pot. My husband says this recipe reminds him of his grandmother’s recipe, it’s that good! Just a little prep goes a long way with this delicious family favorite.

You know I love my slow cooker. It’s one of my favorite kitchen gadgets. I love it so much I use it several times a week.
Some of my family’s favorite recipes are Crock Pot Chicken Spaghetti and these delicious Crock Pot Chicken Thighs. They’re also popular with my readers, so make sure you bookmark them for later.
I also love to make this Crockpot Salisbury steak recipe every couple of months. It’s a hearty, comfort dish that my whole family devours.

What Ingredients Do I Need to Make Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak?
The best part about the yummy Crockpot Salisbury steak recipe is that it is made in the Crock Pot. Just a few minutes to prep and then dinner is ready when you get home.
To make this delicious meal you are going to need to gather just a few ingredients.
- lean ground beef
- dry onion soup mix
- Italian breadcrumbs
- milk
- all-purpose flour
- vegetable oil
- condensed cream of mushroom soup (I use Campbell’s)
- packet dry au jus mix (or brown gravy mix)
- beef broth
- pepper
- oregano flakes
- Italian seasoning
- thyme
- salt and black pepper to taste

I love making this recipe from scratch and it is easy once you’ve formed the patties. After you’ve formed the patties and browned them in the skillet, this recipe is super simple.
While it takes a few extra minutes to prep this recipe, I guarantee you will be so pleased with the results at dinner that extra work won’t be a big deal at all.
If your slow cooker has a saute function, you can brown the patties in the slow cooker. I typically just use my skillet and knock this step out while I am making breakfast or lunch.
How To Make Salisbury Steak from Scratch
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, onion soup mix, pepper, oregano, thyme, Italian seasoning, bread crumbs, and milk using your hands. Shape into 6 beef patties.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cover the steak patties in flour just to coat, and then place them into the hot skillet to quickly brown on both sides.

- Place browned patties into the slow cooker stacking alternately. Stack the beef patties on top of each other and evenly over the bottom of the Crock Pot liner.

- Combine the gravy ingredients into a medium bowl. Mix together the mushroom soup, au jus mix, and beef broth. Pour the mixture evenly over the patties.

- Cook on the Low setting for 4 or 5 hours or High setting for 2-3 hours until ground beef is well done.

This is such a delicious recipe and one you won’t mind having often! I truly love how yummy the tender beef patties are and how delicious the gravy mixture turns out.
Note: You can thicken the gravy by adding tablespoon cornstarch to the Crock Pot about 30 minutes before serving. I find the gravy consistency to be perfect.
What Do I Serve with Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
We love to serve our Crockpot Salisbury Steak with mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. You can also serve this recipe over egg noodles and with a side of your favorite vegetables. It’s comfort food at its finest so you can’t go wrong with your favorite feel-good side dishes. Here are a few of my favorite ways to serve it.
If you decide to serve it over a carb, think about serving it over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, and even over rice. You can also serve over cauliflower rice.
For sides, I typically serve it with green beans, but you can also serve it with freshly cooked corn or sliced carrots.
I almost always serve this dish with dinner rolls. While I don’t use rolls very often, I feel like this hearty dish needs them. (Mostly because I love the gravy and I want to sop it up with a fresh roll!) 🙂
My family is a fun-loving Southern family, and this is one of those Southern recipes that we will never get sick of. I hope your family enjoys this recipe as much as we do.

Can I Use Turkey Instead of Beef?
Yes. You can substitute lean ground turkey for lean ground beef. You might also want to change the beef broth to chicken broth and the au jus or beef gravy packet for a turkey gravy packet.

Yum. My father would love this. He loves anything made with ground beef. Perfect for a crowd after a long day out. I find that often Moms have more time to cook when he kids are at school, so they have the time to prep this. It is the 3-5pm timeframe when there isn’t a spare minute, so this is great:)
yum! There is still tomorrow because Cassidy did the food shopping today and forgot two of the most important things.
So this can be a go!
You are right…I do want to make this! My oldest son loves Salisbury steak and I have yet to find something he likes as much as what I got from a local grocery store’s deli years ago that closed down. I’m pinning your recipe to try!
This looks wonderful, going to try it this week 🙂 I was wondering, have you ever tried this as a freezer recipe? I was thinking to make the patties and sauce separately, then freezing until cooking day. Would love any ideas!
That would be a great idea! I haven’t done too much freezer cooking, but would love to be a little more organized and start! I’m not sure you would have to freeze them separately, I would probably try and keep them together.
This was so good! My family was skeptical about it when I told them I was making it. Some are picky eaters. But they LOVED IT! I thought it was excellent as well.
So glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
This is delicious !! The whole family loves it!!
