Old-Fashioned Mee Maw's Chocolate Cake Recipe is a classic, incredibly moist double-layer dessert. The secret ingredient of hot coffee makes the chocolate flavor wonderfully rich!
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour two 8" or 9" round cake pans. Line your cake pans with parchment and grease.
In a large bowl mix together your flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cocoa powder and salt.
Add your milk, oil, vanilla, coffee and eggs to your mixture.
Mix until combined. Scrape the bottom and sides of your bowl. Batter will be thin.
Pour batter into your prepared cake pans.
Bake for 45 minutes or a few minutes less if using 9" pans. Test with tooth pick in the middle of your cake.
Remove from oven and allow to cool in pan for 5 minutes. Loosen edges of pan and turn cake onto wire rack to cool. Remove parchment if used. Allow cake to cool completely.
Cool your melted chocolate. It should not be hot but still runny. Using an electric mixer mix your butter, chocolate, powdered sugar, sour cream and vanilla until smooth.
Take one layer of cake and place on serving plate. Cover with frosting.
Top with second layer of cake and frost top and sides of your cake.
