My family and I have used Essential Oils for over FIVE years now. But if you would have told me five and a half years ago that I would be passionate about essential oils, I would have laughed at you. It’s not something I talk about every hour of the day, but they are something that we have incorporated into our lives and home – and I think we have been better for it. Not to mention, I have made some really cool stuff with my oils! Keep reading to learn how we use our oils and how we make easy DIY chemical free products.
One of the first things I did when I started using essential oils was research all of the ways I could use them. When I originally started using essential oils, I was looking for a natural pain reliever. I suffer from tension headaches and I also happen to hate taking pain medications. That’s when I first learned about essential oils.
How to use Essential Oils
One of the biggest things to understand about essential oils is that they should be treated just like medications. They can really help, but you also have to treat them with respect. Just like with a medication, you want to understand the usage needs and what is recommended.
How do you know how to use essential oils?
One of the best things I ever purchased when I received my essential oils kit was the desk reference manual from Life Sciences. You can find this on Amazon or on the Life Sciences website. They are a little costly (anywhere from $45-$80 depending on what version and size you purchase) but well worth every penny.
I love using the desk reference to look up our common ailments and see what I can use that will help give us a little relief. It’s also a really good read if you are looking for more information on the history of essential oils and the stories about how long ago they began to be used. Just remember that essential oils are not FDA approved, but they have been helping millions of people for thousands of years!
What can I make with my essential oils?
What can you make with your oils? Now this is my favorite topic and will probably be the longest part of this article. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to make homemade items with my oils. I’ve made yummy sugar scrubs, shower bombs, homemade dusting spray, linen spray, cleaning items, laundry detergent, and more. The list is endless when it comes to taking chemicals out of your home and introducing natural products with essential oils. I even made a DIY window cleaner.
One of my favorite items to make with my oils are sugar scrubs. I have an amazing Coconut Sugar Scrub, and a Lemon Cake Sugar Scrub that smells so good, you just want to eat it!
One of my most popular essential oil posts is my shower bomb recipe. If you have never tried a shower or bath bomb, you are in for a treat. This Peppermint Shower Bomb really helps open you up and is an amazing way to wake up during your morning shower.
If you are looking for a more relaxing shower experience, you can also try these Stress Away Shower Steamers. They are sure to introduce relaxation into your day.
Are you looking for different ways to wear the oils, but haven’t decided which one you like best? I have a great post below that shares with you how to make essential oil diffuser bracelets. I am always diffusing something in my home or office, but I also love adding new scents to my diffuser bracelet to keep with me all day long. You can also make your own clay diffuser charms!
Essential Oils for Cleaning? YES!
Did you know that some pure grade oils are amazing for cleaning? I love to use my lemon oil to help me clean the microwave. Not only does it help take off that gunk and grime (hello, I have teenagers) but it also leaves the microwave smelling clean and fresh. I also use Thieves cleaner for everything, it’s really amazing.
There are really so many different way your can use essential oils. The best ways to use essential oils in my opinion is to use them to create your favorite products so that you can remove harmful chemicals from your home. My family uses these now exclusively to replace harmful products that are more natural and chemical free.
