There is just something about Rice Krispie Treats that makes me want to eat just ONE more every time I have them. I cannot get enought of them, and neither can my kids. We all love the cereal, but whomever came up with the genius idea of adding in a little butter and marshmallows is my hero.

Rice Krispie Treats Recipe with Chocolate and Sprinkles, YUM!

You can find the original Rice Krispie Treats recipe on the back of the cereal box, but for this Christmas version, I added in two little things to make it that much sweeter.

Rice Krispie Treats

What you will need:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 5 cups Rice Krispie cereal
  • candy melts
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • sprinkles

Step 1: Making your Rice Krispie Treats is a quick recipe. Take your 1/4 cup butter and melt over low/medium heat in a saucepan.

Step2:  Once the butter is melted, stir in your marshmallows and continue to stir until they are fully melted. Watch the heat so you don’t brown the marshmallows.

Step3: After the marshmallows are melted, remove from heat and stir in the cereal. Use a plastic spatula, it likes to stick and this seems the easiest.

Step 4: Pour you mixture into a 9 x 13 dish and allow to cool and harden.

Step 5: Pour in a microwave safe bowl your bag of candy melts and vegetable oil. Heat on high for 1 minute, remove and stir. Then heat again for 30 minute increments until fully melted.

Step 6: Spread a thin layer over the Rive Krispie Treats and smooth out to cover. Add you sprinkles and allow to set, about 30 minutes.

Step 7: Cut into squares and serve.

Rice Krispie Treats Recipe for Christmas

This is such a quick and easy recipe, and it is fun for the kiddos to help make and serve. Add in a little a bag and a gift tag and have the kids hand these out at their class Christmas party. Enjoy these Christmas style Rice Krispie Treats this holiday!

Oh yes! The candy melts and the sprinkles do add an even more special element, and I agree that the butter and marshmallows are already pretty transforming too.
    I need these.
