It’s DIY Scarf Week over here at PinkWhen again! I am such a HUGE fan of scarves, and making my own always makes me happier than buying one. Ha! Today I am going to share with you another EASY PEASY scarf, the  DIY Ruffle Scarf.

Simple 5 minute tutorial for a DIY Ruffle Scarf

To make this scarf you will need your sewing machine, but this is a very simple sew project, so don’t freak out! I am a novice, and my machine is smarter than I am, but as long as you can do a straight stitch, you are all good!

DIY Ruffle Scarf

Supplies:

  • 1 yard ruffle material (lots of color choices!)
  • sewing machine
  • 5 minutes

How to Make a Ruffle Scarf

Step 1: The first thing you want to do is cut your material for the scarf. Because this material has a ruffle, you can easily hide your cut edge. Measure the width of your fabric to 16 inches, and then cut the length of the yard. You should now have a 16″ wide length of fabric.

Step 2: Take your two ends and pin. Make sure you try to make your ruffles come together when pinning.

Step 3: Run a straight stitch down your ends, sealing them together. Add a second straight stitch to secure the ends completely.

DONE! You now have a long and beautiful ruffle scarf. Because of the long length of the scarf, you can use this as a long scarf, or wrap it twice and use it as an infinity scarf.

There are a ton of options with ruffle material. I have made cute little Rompers for Addy, and a fun and easy dress. I love using this soft material.

This literally is such a fast project, you could probably hand sew a straight stitch and tie it off with the same outcome 🙂

That’s adorable! I don’t own a sewing machine, but I might be talked in to buying one if it means I can make adorable scarves like this.

Haha! This is so quick and easy, I wouldn’t go buy one…I would just hand sew that 16 inches together and be done with it! Most of these won’t require a sewing machine at all. 🙂

I was so excited to make this today! I went to Jo Ann’s fabric store and asked for “ruffle material” and the sales woman looked at me like I had 2 heads! She never heard of it and we looked at all the fabric but didn’t see anything similar. Any ideas?

Haha! I wonder if she was new??? It is literally called “RUFFLE FABRIC”. It’s a knit, and it is stretchy. Here is a link of the same kind of fabric I used, and it’s from JoAnn’s. http://www.joann.com/doodles-collection-ruffle-knit-black-/12489118.html#q=ruffle+fabric&start=8 Hopefully that helps!! Sorry no one was able to help you today. Maybe they don’t carry it in store for some reason? I purchased mine in store and there were several colors available. Try the link 🙂

So, from your link, with the material 57″ wide, you could get 3 scarves from a yard? Am I understanding that correctly, with each scarf being 16″ wide?

Thanks! Just arm knitted a scarf. Fun and easy!

Honestly, I have a TON of the material left over, and YES…you should be able to get three ruffle scarves out of a yard of fabric. 🙂 I am so glad you knitted your first scarf…it’s soooo addicting!
