Today I am going to share with you a project that I had a LOT of fun making. This easy DIY painted pillowcase has been an idea of mine for a while. The one thing I could never really decide on was how I was going to create the patterns. When I was given the opportunity to work with FrogTape ® Shape Tape™ I realized I was finally going to be able to create my designs!

Learn How to Paint Your Own Pillowcase

I love using Frog Tape for projects like this. It has a special polymer that keeps paint from bleeding. This makes FrogTape® the best painters tape ever! You get nothing but crisp, clean lines, without any bleed through.

How to Make a Custom Pillowcase

Making a custom pillowcase is easy when you have the right materials.

To make this easy DIY fabric painted pillowcase you only need a few supplies.

  • FrogTape® Shape Tape™
  • Pillow Case
  • Fabric Paint
  • Foam brush
  • credit card

After you have the pillowcase placed on a clean flat surface, pre-cut the tape so that your design will match up as needed. Make sure to place something thin like cardboard or plastic inside of the pillowcase to prevent bleed-through from the paint to the other side of the casing.

After you have the tape precut, go ahead and remove one side of the tape and adhere it to the pillowcase.

After you are sure you have it in the correct spot, remove the second piece of backing and then use your credit card the make sure the tape is smooth and adhered to the case. Do this for the entire pillow case.

Once your entire pillowcase has been taped and smoothed you can grab your fabric paint and a foam brush.

Dab the paint and cover all of the open spots on the pillowcase. For best results remove the tape after you have painted the pillowcase. Do not allow to fully dry.

Making this patterned pillowcase was easy with FrogTape® Shape Tape™. I am not sure how else I would have been able to make a fun patterned project without taking more time on a stencil or design. Having the pre-designed Shape Tape™ made all of the difference.

Your pillow turned out great. I can’t believe how clean the lines are. Thanks for sharing. If I ever get around to painting anything I know which tape to use 🙂

Thanks so much! I was also shocked at how clean and pure the lines were. I had one “little” blob, but that was purely my fault 🙂

That’s really cute and great for when you can’t find the exact fabric you want. And it looks easier than using a stencil 🙂

For this project I used Silhouette America brand fabric paint, but you can really use any kind. I have used Martha Stewart brand before and had amazing results as well. Both of those are awesome and I highly recommend them.
