Going to the store and buying cleaning supplies is super easy to do, but making your own is just as easy, saves money, and SO much better.
I love the fact that I know exactly what is going in the bottle and what I am spraying into the air at my house. It really cleans amazingly and smells so good.
This Homemade Lemon Scented Dusting Spray is one of my new favorite cleaning supplies!
Lemon Scented Dusting Spray
Here is a list of the supplies you will need to make your very own homemade Lemon scented dusting spray. Make sure you use glass bottles, the lemon and citric oils don’t work well with plastic bottles. You can always recycle or return for deposit some plastic bottles you have been saving. I have an affiliate link for the glass spray bottles that I use, just in case you can’t find any at your local store:
- 16 oz. Glass Spray Bottle
- 1 cup distilled water
- 1/4 cup vinegar (to cut through grease and grime)
- 2 tsp olive oil (shines and protects wood)
- 10-15 drops Lemon Essential Oil (to smell naturally fresh and clean)
Once you have all of your ingredients together, just shake the bottle up really well and use.
How to make a homemade dusting spray
I have used this on most of my wood furniture and table tops and LOVE the way it shines and cleans. It’s so easy to make and smells so good!
You can also add this free cute printable label. I printed mine out on clear sticker labels and then attached the label to my bottle.
It really does make everything look so shiny and new!
If you are looking to save a little money in the New Year, try making your own Homemade Lemon Scented Dusting Spray. It’s simple to make, works great, smells good, and all natural – you can’t get better than that!

Wow, my second post today reading about something with essential oils. I think I need to get on these. Making your own also keeps preservatives out of your environment, so I’m a fan!

I’m loving your oils posts. I have lemon and I haven’t really figured out what to do with it yet. It smells delicious. I love the idea of using it for cleaning.
So far I put it on my toenail and I don’t even know why! My toenail looked dry.

Such a good tip! I love cleaning with vinegar, but my husband hates the smell. This sounds lovely.

Been making my own cleaning products for awhile. This is great. Will definitely make this furniture polish. Use vinegar for alot of cleaning supplies.

I have everything I need for this except the distilled water. Have you tried doing this with filtered or tap water? Do you only specify distilled to avoid a possible mineral build-up from minerals in the water?
Jennifer says
I just recently made a second batch and I used filtered water and I think it works just fine! No streaks, and it really smells AMAZING!

Is this also a disinfectant spray? I think it would be due to the vinegar and lemon but just making sure. Our coffee and side tables are wooden and would like something that shines but also disinfects. Thanks!
Jennifer says
I only use it as a dusting spray, but you could possibly be on to something!

I am so glad I stumbled across this recipe! I was just dusting yesterday using my DIY Kitchen Spray thinking there has got to be a more effective DIY. Thank you for this great recipe. I will be making some later today

I noticed you said use a glass bottle. However, the spray top tube that goes into the liquid is plastic. Does this matter?
Jennifer says
It didn’t matter for me, I have not had any issues, but I do know that over time the oils can cause the plastic to break down. If you use it often enough, you won’t have that problem at all 🙂

Can you use coconut oil instead?
Jennifer says
That’s a great question, I have not tried that before!

I want to reply to the comment that “OLIVE OIL may go rancid over time”: BALONEY! NONSENSE!
I have been using olive oil on my wood furniture, etc for YEARS (I’m only 78…..) and it is THE BEST!!!
It cleans & polishes leaving a subtle sheen. The VINEGAR & LEMON Oil would contribute more cleaning properties & a lovely scent as would LAVENDER. Mineral oil is yet another PETROLEUM prduct that we should avoid!
