Tri Tip Roast FAQs
How do I make gravy with the remaining liquid in the Instant Pot?
Once you’ve cooked the Tri Tip, potatoes, and carrots, it’s time to make the gravy. Remove the roast and vegetables from the Instant Pot and leave the liquid. Turn the Instant Pot onto the saute function again and then add 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch to the drippings. Use a whisk and stir continuously until this delicious gravy is smooth and as thick as desired.

Pour the gravy into a gravy boat to serve with the roast and vegetables.

How do I know when my Tri Tip is cooked?
You can use an Instant Read thermometer and check the internal temperature of the roast. It will read 135 F for rare, 140 F for medium-rare, and 145 F for medium. Add a little extra time in the Instant Pot if needed to reach your optimal and desired doneness.
What do I serve with Instant Pot Tri Tip?
I always make potatoes and carrots with this roast, but I will also serve it over white rice and top it with gravy made from the drippings. It’s my favorite way to serve this dinner recipe.

My entire family loves this tip roast recipe and it always exceeds my dinner goals. It’s an easy way to make a hearty meal and get dinner on the table relatively quickly, with much less cooking time than using the oven. The only thing better than having this tri tip roast made in the Instant Pot is having someone else make it for you! 🙂
