This homemade chocolate chip cookie cake is a fun and delicious dessert. Made with flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and more - it's one of my families' favorite requested birthday cakes. If you're looking for a fun and unique birthday cake, grab the recipe for this homemade cookie cake.

My favorite birthday cake is not really a cake–it’s a Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake! What could be better than a gigantic chocolate chip cookie? It’s delicious and much easier to serve than a traditional cake. I feel like it goes further as well which is surprising because everyone wants seconds.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake on a pan covered with frosting and sprinkles and with a slice cut to serve.

I remember when we used to go to the mall and loved stopping at the cookie stand and getting a slice of cookie cake for the ride home. I think frosting tastes better on a cookie cake than regular cake, the creamy chocolate and soft cookie are a perfect mix.

If you have bought a cookie cake then you know how expensive they can be, not to mention having to take the time to go pick it up. But it’s so easy to make this Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake at home that you will want to make it for more than just birthdays.

It could be for Christmas, a pool party, or just because it’s Tuesday. Rest assured this recipe is so good that your family will ask for you to make it often.

Cookie Cake Frosting

You can buy so many types of frosting now but I like to use a good, creamy, homemade vanilla buttercream frosting. It’s simple and goes perfectly with the cookie. No need to buy a cake decorating kit because it’s easy to use things that you already have at home.

To make the piping around the cake you can use a gallon size Ziploc bag, duct tape and scissors. You just fold the lower corner of the bag up to the opposite corner of the top of the bag and secure with duct tape.

Then you fill the bag with frosting, squeeze out any excess air and close the top of the bag, then use scissors to cut of the tip. You’ll want to be careful how much you cut off because that will determine how you pipe out your frosting.

You will need to keep consistent pressure on the top of the bag while frosting the cookie cake. With this frosting trick you can make a straight line around the cake or design it as you want to.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Unsalted Butter
  • Brown Sugar
  • Granulated Sugar
  • One egg and one egg yolk
  • Teaspoon Vanilla
  • All-purpose Flour
  • Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • Teaspoon Salt
  • Milk Chocolate Chips
Ingredients needed to make a homemade cookie cake.

How to make a Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 10″ pizza plate or cake pan.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and baking soda to a bowl and set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugars together for two minutes with an electric mixer on medium speed. Mix in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla.
  4. Pour the flour mixture into butter mixture and mix until combined. Use a wooden spoon to mix in all but two tablespoons of chocolate chips and press the cookie dough into the pie plate/cake pan.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top and press them down slightly.
  6. Add the cookie dough to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 22-25 minutes. Let the cookie cool completely and then run a sharp knife along the edge to loosen and then use a large spatula to transfer to a platter.
  8. Pipe on frosting along the edges and add sprinkles.
  9. Top with frosting and sprinkles before serving.

This homemade chocolate chip cookie cake is one of my favorite recipes to make. Everyone devours it. You can bet if it’s someone’s birthday, they are asking me to make this cake.
