This year I am sharing 2013’s most read and shared posts, and this one is surely the first post that went viral, for How to Make an Herb Garden from a Pallet.

Pallet Herb Garden

Pallet Herb Garden

This is the project that I made in a few short hours with my old torn up pallet, a Kreg jig, drill, and some paint! The transformation was amazing, and if you have an old pallet around, I would whole heartedly tell you to give this project a try.

Make an Herb Garden from a Pallet

To get started, you will need a pallet, preferably one that is in a bit of better shape this this one.

Since my pallet was in such bad shape, I had to strip it completely, keeping the frame only. I then added a few cut boards to replace the ones that were rotting or broken.

I took my precut and measured boards and began adding them back to the pallet, but in the area I needed them for me Herb Garden.

Pallet After Adding Shleves

Pallet After Adding Shelves

After adding my shelves, I added the facing to make it look a bit cleaner, and to have a place to put my labels.

After facing was added to pallet

All of this was done within a couple of hours. It really did not take long at all. You can see in the picture above I also added feet to the pallet to make it vertical and free standing. This was an important feature for me.

Once I had the shelves and facing finished, I then added a nice coat of paint that I picked up at the local hardware store.

Painted Pallet

After the pallet was painted, I realized that it was just a little too plain. I wanted to make sure all of my herbs were labeled and visible for anyone who was going to be picking herbs.

To easily do this, I used my vinyl cutting machine and added some labels.

Once I finished with the labels, it was time to add my herbs and display the finished product.

My husband gets unlimited free pallets from work and we do use them for gardening. We’ve never done this before, though! I’m going to send this to him.

This would be a fun project, and it’s probably a good thing I don’t LIVE there. If I had access to unlimited free pallets there is no telling what I would be building right now! You are so lucky….
