As a mom, I have all these grand notions that I’m going to wake up super early and make homemade donuts from scratch before everyone else wakes up in the morning…and then life happens and I’m up till 2 in the morning Googling about cows or something else random and before I know it, I’ve missed my alarm clock and I’ve started another day without homemade donuts.

But guess what? That was before this simple cake mix donut recipe. Now all I need are just a few moments of time to have delicious warm donuts ready and waiting for my crew.

The first time that I ever made these simple donuts, I knew I’d knocked it out of the park. They’re crazy good and simple and they taste amazing as well.

What I love about this simple donut recipe is that it makes up 36 mini donuts in no time at all. And since we eat them as fast as we’re making them, it’s a good thing that we have plenty of extras!

Cake Mix Donuts

Turn on the Babycakes appliance

Mix the cake mix per instructions on the box of mix. 

Pour mixture into a ziplock bag and seal. 

Once the Babycakes appliance is heated, snip a corner of the ziplock bag and carefully fill each donut cavity. Close the lid and allow to bake for 5 minutes. 

Remove donut cakes and set aside. Should make about 36 mini donuts.

Heat the strawberry cream cheese frosting and carefully dip the tops of the donuts. Add sprinkles and serve. 

We store leftover donuts in the refrigerator and heat them in the microwave for a few seconds when we are ready for a quick snack!

If you don’t have a Babycakes donut appliance you can also grab a donut pan and bake these in the oven.

As long as you eat them within 48 hours of making them, they should still be fresh and taste great. And as I mentioned above, if they’re starting to get a bit hard, just pop them in the microwave for a few seconds and they’ll soften back up!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 box Vanilla (or your favorite flavored cake mix)  (plus ingredients to make cake mix)
  • 3/4 cup Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 3 tbsp Sprinkles

Instructions
 

  • Turn on the Babycakes appliance. Mix the cake mix per instructions on the box of mix. 
  • Pour mixture into a ziplock bag and seal. 
  • Once the Babycakes appliance is heated, snip a corner of the ziplock bag and carefully fill each donut cavity.
  • Close the lid and allow to bake for 5 minutes. Remove donut cakes and set aside. Should make about 36 mini donuts.
  • Heat the strawberry cream cheese frosting and carefully dip the tops of the donuts.
  • Add sprinkles and serve. 

Notes

  1. Store these donuts for up to 48 hours in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  2. Reheat for about 8-10 seconds in the microwave before re-serving.
  3. Use different flavored cake mixes and toppings.
