The first is on how to make pinwheels. I am not going to actually show you how to make the pinwheels, but direct you to a great link I found thru a google search. You can find the link on how to make pinwheels HERE. She has great pictures on how to do this. All you need is your desired square paper for the pinwheel, and different color brads that you can find at any craft store. Either use a dowel, or straws like I am today.
Today I am making some really cute pinwheels and treats. We have a birthday boy and I thought I would make him and the family some fun treats with pinwheels. So today, you are getting two tutorials in one! (Sort of..) The first is on how to make pinwheels. For the treats I am using jumbo chocolate covered marshmallows with sprinkles! I also added in some pretzels and oreo cookies. (You can never have too many chocolate covered sprinkled snacks!) All you need are the jumbo sized marshmallows, melting chocolate candies, and sprinkles of your choice. I also purchased some really cute paper straws at the craft store to attach our pinwheels to. Add them all together and you have yourself some awesome PinWheel treats! Now you can actually allow the kids to "play with their food"! I am now off to party, and eat some of these treats!!! Have a great weekend everyone. 6 Comments I am so completely addicted to Pinterest, but when you do crafts for your blog, you just can't help it! Not too long ago I found one of my favorite wreaths for summer on Pinterest. It's simple, and beautiful. Besides, who doesn't love a summer wreath with beautiful blooming hydrangeas? During my supply run to the craft store today I just couldn't resist grabbing everything I needed for this wreath. Not with the stems all 50% off this week. So this is what I purchased: And this is what I came up with! Simple, yet summery and beautiful. Hope you like it! I may have to make a few more of these for the parents when they all show up for the birthday party tomorrow. Have a blessed weekend, and I will be posting some scrumptious snacks for the party tomorrow! Until then... One of our favorite things to do here in Louisiana is have a good old Crawfish Boil. If you have never been a part of this Louisiana tradition, you need to figure out a way to get in on it! Crawfish are tiny little "mud bugs." That probably sounds gross to eat, but it is one of the most popular things to do down here in the South when they are in season. (Just think of them as mini lobsters.) In fact, we are so into Crawfish down here that you can find many Crawfish Festivals throughout the state. These aren't small little festivals either, these are large festivals with thousands of people attending! There are tons of booths with just about everything "Crawfish" you can imagine: Crawfish Pie, Crawfish Enchiladas, Crawfish Etoufee, Crawfish Cheesecake, etc. (I haven't seen Crawfish Ice Cream yet, but I am sure that someone has tried that, too. We like to do our own Crawfish Boils. In order to do that, there are a few ingredients you need to have on hand:
Just remember, the amount of ingredients you will need will depend on the amount of crawfish you are cooking. If you look below, we chopped up enough ingredients to do 3 batches of crawfish at our boil. First you want to bring your water in your large pot to a boil. This can take a while. While waiting for it to boil, add your squeezed lemons into the water and your crab boil seasoning. After your water comes to a boil, you can add your veggies and sausage and other ingredients to the water. While you have that going, cleanse your crawfish. Not everyone does this, but this is called a "purge". Add water to you cooler with the live crawfish and dump in a lot of salt. The salt causes them to "purge" everything and leave you with a nice clean little crawfish. Once your sides have come to a boil and your crawfish have been purged, go ahead and dump (carefully) your crawfish in the boil. Place a lid on to get things going. It doesn't take long for the crawfish to boil, and once your water come up to a boil again with the crawfish in, it's time to turn the gas off. Once you have the as turned off and the lid back on, now is the time to soak. Soaking them allows them to "soak" up the spice. The longer you leave them in, the hotter and spicier they will get. (We like things spicy down here.) Once you have the soak done to your liking, it's time to grab one of those large trays and scoop them up! Even the kids like to be a part of it! Here is a onesie I made for Addy last year to wear to our local Crawfish Festival. She had on a red little tutu skirt to match, too cute! If you have never tried a Crawfish, I have to warn you, they can become addictive! If you are looking at this and are disgusted, I say "Hey, Don't Knock it Until You've Tried It!" Thanks for hanging out with me today! Jen I have been saving this DIY Lemon and Coconut Body Scrub for a long time, waiting for the right time of year to share! With the summer getting so close, and working to try and get somewhat beach ready, I knew it was time to give my skin a good scrubbing! Why are sugar scrubs so popular, and why does everyone from spas and salons sell them? That's easy, because they are WONDERFUL for your skin, and your skin is the largest "organ" you have. Naturally you want to take good care of it, and why not pamper yourself why you are at it? Scrubs help remove dead skin cells and leave your skin looking and feeling much healthier. You can always go and buy a nice scrub at a salon, but why not make something you can use over and over and love the results just as much? Not to mention, you know exactly what is in your scrub, and don't have to worry about other possible harmful additives. There are a lot of DIY Sugar Scrubs recipes you can find on the internet, but I bet you will find this scrub as one of the best once you try it! The first thing you want to do is gather your ingredients:
Mix your ingredients together well, and then store them into your chosen container. Make sure when you are using your scrubs to be careful in the bathtub or shower if you use a glass container like shown here. We don't want any accidents! I have found the best way to enjoy and see the best results from your scrub is to soak in a tub for a few minutes, and then use your sugar scrub. You will notice a HUGE difference when you emerge. Not to mention, the combined smells of the lemon and coconut is heavenly!! These little scrubs are also a wonderful gift idea for friends and family. Just add a little label for personalization and you have the perfect gift. (Use a Silhouette machine if you have one!) Hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial, and your skin will be thanking you soon! Are you following me on Pinterest or Instagram? I hope to see you there soon! It's funny, time seems to just fly as you get older. It's one of life's lessons that I hate to realize. Time stops for no person, place, or thing. No matter what happens, it is going to keep on going and going. It's hard to imagine that it's almost Father's Day already. While dwelling on this little concept today, I have also been trying to think of some things to create for my dad. While I was lost in thought, I made a list of all of the things that make him who he is. I ended up making a list of who he is to me, and really loved just reading it out loud. While this is just a little printable from the list I made, I decided to share it today. For some reason it seems Father's Day does not rank as high as the rest of the "Hallmark" holidays. I want to make sure this year he knows I am thinking about him ahead of time. Not to mention, I did get some great ideas from this list!! (He's not getting a horse, not a real one!) What do you and you family have planned for Father's Day? Is it too early to think about Father's Day already? WELCOME TO THE FRENZY!

Following theplans, we began by making our fancy X support legs. As we did with the table, we created plugs with a drill bit to fill all of our pocket holes we made with the Kreg Jig.
We made two benches, so we had to make 6 of these legs.
Once you have all of your support legs finished and braces cut, it is time to start piecing this bench together! Things go a lot faster once you have the steps above finished.
After getting this step complete, the next step is creating the pocket holes with the Kreg for the seat of the bench.
Believe it or not, this step actually goes really fast.
Believe it or not, this step actually goes really fast.
Once you have your seat together, its time to sand, and sand, and sand, and sand!
I have arrows in the picture below explaining an issue we had with this build that is probably common. There were uneven spots when we sat on the bench, making one area rise up when you placed weight on the other end. This was because of the bowing of the wood we used for the seat, which in turn made the middle support leg uneven. We were able to correct the wood for the seat a ton by using the pocket holes from the Kreg, but we were unable to completely correct it. We tackled this problem by sanding the feet to make them all even again and the bench perfectly steady.
(Remember to always grab your protective eyewear before using any equipment. You only have two eyes!)

We also created plugs for the seat and every other area, just like we did for the table. We didn't want screw holes showing, and we really like the look of one uniform piece.
After completing the benches, it was time to stain! Once again, I used 2 coats of the Minwax Dark Walnut, and also the Helmsman Spar Urethane. I LOVE these products from Minwax, and the stains they have to choose from are beautiful. I chose a dark stain for our table and benches, but I am looking forward to trying their different selections for future projects.
I will admit that staining these benches was harder than the table. There were a ton of little angles, nooks, and small spaces to have to get into. I did the benches in steps, and with dry time it took a couple of days.
The time it took was well worth it. We are now completely finished with our outdoor patio project, and are in love with our new table and benches.
I am looking forward to many meals with friends and family on our new table.
Now that we are finished, I am trying to decide on what my new big project should be....
