blackened seasoning spilled on a white table

This Homemade Blackened Seasoning is the perfect way to add a delicious flavor to your favorite chicken recipes. Not only is it tasty to eat, but it just might be the best recipe for blackened seasoning, ever. Pair it up with this Crock Pot Chicken Thighs recipe to add in some delicious flavor.

Homemade Blackened Seasoning Mix

We’re pretty much obsessed with this blackened seasoning. The added ingredients are perfect together and we’ve yet to find a recipe that we don’t like it with. (plus it saves us time since we can make it ahead of time to use for later!)

This blackened seasoning recipe is a must to add to your seasoning shelf.

Homemade Blackened Seasoning

SIMPLE HOMEMADE BLACKENED SEASONING

I will say that one of my favorite reasons for this recipe is that it’s fast and simple to make. I also love that I know everything that’s added into it and they’re all simple to find ingredients. (because who really has time to head to the store and find something that they’ve never heard of and probably aren’t ever going to use again?!)

Once you make this seasoning recipe, you’re going to wonder where it’s been your whole life!

IS BLACKENED SEASONING THE SAME AS CAJUN SEASONING?

People tend to think that they’re the same, but they’re not. Blackened seasoning has a milder taste while Cajun seasoning is going to have a kick. Some of the ingredients are the same but they do taste very different from one another.

WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE HOMEMADE BLACKENED SEASONING?

Paprika – Such a good flavor and goes so well with chicken.

Garlic powder – Don’t confuse this with garlic salt.

Onion powder – Another addition that gives a good flavor.

Dried Thyme

White Pepper

Black pepper

Cayenne pepper – optional. If you don’t want spice, leave it out.

Dried basil

Dried oregano

HOW DO I MAKE HOMEMADE BLACKENED SEASONING?

Remember earlier when I said that this recipe was super simple? Get ready…there’s literally two steps for this homemade seasoning recipe.

Here is all you need to do to make this blackened seasoning recipe:

  • Mix all of the seasonings together and use as desired.
  • Store in an airtight container.

HOW TO USE THIS SEASONING RECIPE

Honestly, there isn’t a wrong way to use this recipe. This can be something that is added to your chicken before putting it on the grill or used once your chicken is cooked up as a delicious seasoning to enjoy.

A few of our favorite ideas are to:

  • Add it to the top of grilled chicken kabobs
  • Use it as a delicious seasoning for chicken wings
  • Sprinkle it on top of baked chicken for a nice and mild flavor

HOW DO I STORE BLACKENED SEASONING?

Once you make the recipe together, you literally just have to store it in a sealed container to be able to keep it fresh for later use.

An old spice container that you can reuse would work well or you can even use a mason jar with a lid.

We’re really big fans of this seasoning recipe and hope that you enjoy it as well. While you’re here, check out some of our other favorite recipes, too!

Of course. But once you modify it, it will change the whole taste and flavor! We love it just the way it is and hope that you will, too.

We hope you love this recipe! If you do, please leave a comment and a rating, if possible. This lets us know what you really think and allows us to keep making recipes that we hope you’ll continue to love and enjoy.
