I must admit that I am a sucker for all things Air Fryer. I love to make desserts, and this boxed cake is no exception.

BUT! If you like doing things the homemade way, you can also find my favorite Air Fryer Cake recipe like this Air Fryer Chocolate Bundt Cake, along with this yummy Air Fryer Cheesecake, and Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Pound Cake.

Air Fryer Thanksgiving Recipes.

Those are all delicious, but this one is by far the easiest!

Ingredients:

Box Cake Mix: I used vanilla for this recipe, but you can use your favorite cake mix.

Eggs: per the boxed cake mix instructions.

Water

Vegetable Oil

Frosting: I chose chocolate frosting for this recipe but you can use your favorite frosting and toppings.

Ingredients needed to make a boxed cake mix in the air fryer.

How to Make a Box Cake in the Air Fryer

  1. Make the cake mix, per the instructions on the package.

Cake mix in the bowl along with a handmixer on the side.

  2. Using non-stick (or olive oil spray) cooking spray, spray an air fryer safe pan.
  3. Pour the cake batter into the cake pan.

  4. Place the air fryer safe pan with the cake batter inside of the air fryer basket and bake at 320 degrees F for 20 minutes.
  5. Air Fryer cake pan with batter in the air fryer basket ready to cook.

  6. Use a toothpick to check the center of the cake to check If the cake is done. If it is not done, add another 5 minutes of cooking time and lower the temp to 300 degrees Fahrenheit so that the cake will finish cooking without browning the top of the cake any further.
  7. Cake baked in the air fryer in the air fryer basket.

  8. Allow the cake to cool on a wire cooling rack
  9. Remove the cake from the pan, and then use a knife to remove the rounded top from the cake.

  10. Use a spatula to add frosting to the cake.

  11. Serve.

NOTE: All air fryers cook a little differently, so you may have to adjust the cook time slightly with this recipe. This was made with a Cosori 5.8 quart Air Fryer and the cake was perfect!

FAQs

Do you need to use a special cake pan for the air fryer?

You do not need a special air fryer cake pan to make this recipe. The pan size will depend on the size of your air fryer. You can use any cake pan or Springform pan you would use in a conventional oven in the air fryer as long as it fits your air fryer basket or shelves.

Can I add different ingredients to the box cake mix?

Yes! You can add chocolate chips, pecan pieces, walnuts, or even freeze-dried fruits.

How do you store the cake?

Store the leftover cake by covering it in plastic wrap or placing it into an airtight container. Store the cake at room temperature for up to 3 days.

How do I make a homemade cake in the air fryer?

Make sure you have these ingredients on hand: salted butter, cream cheese, granulated white sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, and baking powder. Combine the flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder into a mixing bowl and set aside. Add the cream cheese, butter, and sugar to a medium-sized mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer to blend the ingredients until they are completely combined and creamy, about 2 minutes. Combine the eggs, and vanilla and to the butter and sugar mixture and blend until mixed well. Add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix well. Pour the batter into the bundt pan. Cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-18 minutes. Add additional increments of 1 minute if needed. Allow the cake to cool before removing the pan from the air fryer and adding frosting or decorating.

Do you need to preheat the air fryer before baking?

I don’t preheat my Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer before baking cakes or cookies.

Using a box cake mix is an easy way to make a cake in the air fryer.

I love easy air fryer desserts and this moist cake recipe is one of my favorites.
