Jennifer says
It really is, and soooo easy! YUM.
Carol says
I have never seen a cloud cake. Do you buy these in a regular grocery store. They look like Twinkies. This recipe sounds good. Are the cloud cakes like Angel Food Cake? Do you think you could use that, cut up, instead of Cloud Cakes?
Jennifer says
Hi Carol! They are made by Little Debbie and they (to me) taste just like Twinkies. This recipe is AMAZING. EVERYONE I know LOVES it. It’s a keeper, and super quick to make. 🙂 A far as Angel Food Cake cut up….the only thing you will be missing is the cream inside of the Cloud Cakes.
Margie says
Certainly!
Kate @ Project Hermos says
DROOLING OVER THIS! Going to make it for my son’s birthday party next month!
My grandmother would make us strawberry shortcake for breakfast when we would stay the night at her house. She said grandparents were for eating dessert first! Ha!
Jennifer says
You should always eat dessert first 🙂
Donna G. says
Where do you find cloud cakes? They look like twinkies in the picture???? Looks delicious!
Jennifer says
The are made by Little Debbie and are basically Twinkies. SOOOO good 🙂
Andrea says
What is a cloud cake?? Where can I buy them?
Jennifer says
They are made by Little Debbie and can be found in most grocery stores I would assume. I get ours at Kroger.
Joan says
Why not use Twinkies instead of lil Debbie’s?
Jennifer says
You can use either….they were not at the store the first time I made it, so I grabbed cloud cakes. Now I always use cloud cakes.
Jeanette says
It’s her recipe she is sharing with us… not to mention Little Debbie is JUST as good for WAY cheaper…
Kay says
Looks to me a cloud cake is the same as a Twinkie
Jennifer says
A Cloud Cake look and tastes like a Twinkie in my opinion, too. 🙂
Vicki says
I have never heard of cloud cakes ? But they look like twinkies r they the same thing ?
Jennifer says
I think they are Vickie, they taste the same to me 🙂
Cindy says
Just made this and one tip…if you have a deep 9 x 13 it works better. The one I used is shallow so not as much room to spread the whip cream. BUT it looks amazing and can’t wait to try it!1 YUMMM
Jennifer says
Awesome! I didn’t even think of that, I had a deep dish 9 x 13 so it wasn’t even on my mind. This probably would be too close if you used a regular glass 9 x 13. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it…we LOVE it!
Jill says
Where would one buy a deep dish 9 x 13 pan?
Jasbir @jasbeeray says
Firstly, your image for the cake is SUPERB! Can I use the biscuit fingers which are used to make tiramisu?
Jennifer says
I am not sure if you could use those or not. You could always try? Cloud Cakes are basically Twinkies. There are a few versions out there. 🙂
Andrea in Iowa says
We’ve made this for years with Twinkies, except we put the glaze over the strawberries, so it all sticks together better, then we cover and refrigerate for a few hours before we top with the whipped topping and serve.
Jennifer says
That’s awesome Andrea!
Britni says
Where do you get cloud cakes, never heard of them. Are they like Twinkies? A Twinkie cake sounds delicious. Excited to meet you at SNAP next week.
Jennifer says
I am SO excited about SNAP! They are made by Little Debbie, but they are just like Twinkies 🙂
shannon johnson says
is it ok to make this a day ahead of time and refridgerate? I wasnt sure if the glaze would make the cloud cakes soggy and IM making this for a teacher appreciation luncheon tomorrow.
Jennifer says
I personally think this will get soggy if made the day before. Here is the deal….it takes just a FEW minutes! I would pre-cut your strawberries and place them in a baggie or container, and bring the glaze, cloud cakes, and whipped cream with me. When you are ready to serve, place the cakes in the dish, spread the glaze, top with the pre-cut strawberries, and add the whipped cream! It should take you less than 2 minutes 🙂 You can make it ahead and refrigerate if you don’t have time, but I think it will get soggy. If anything, make it the morning of…versus the day before.
Cheshire says
What is strawberry glaze? Where do I get it?
Jennifer says
You find strawberry glaze in the produce section, usually in the cooler with the strawberries or one near by.
Heidi says
Do you need to add any sugar to the strawberries?
Jennifer says
I don’t, but that might be good!!
Christine says
Is the whipped topping come in a bowl like cool whip or a spray can like redi whip?
Jennifer says
I buy the frozen whipped topping in a tub. Thaw it for five hours in the refrigerator and that’s all!
Kim says
I love the idea of this simple cake but i have searched for strawberry glaze with no luck, i have seen red fruit glaze in an envelope that is powder, you make it on the stove but nothing called strawberry glaze in a tub?
Jennifer says
Oh no! I live in the south and it is really everywhere here. Always in the produce department around or near the strawberries.
Heidi says
Just google it. There are recipes to make your own glaze. I think it’s water, cornstarch, sugar & food coloring.
Kim says
Thanks so much for the reply here is a recipe i found if anyone else is unable to find the strawberry glaze in the tub
I have not made this yet i am making it tomorrow, can i make this about 4 hours ahead and keep it in the fridge?
will it get soggy?
Glaze recipe
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 2 tablespoons cornstarch
• 3/4 cup water
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1 teaspoon strawberry extract
• 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring, ( optional )
Kim says
sorry i forgot to add the directions
In a small saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch; stir in water and lemon juice until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 1 minute or until thickened. Stir in extract and food coloring if desired. Cool.
bev says
Or you could try this–easy and delicious:1 cup sugar
4 tablespoons cornstarch
2 cups 7-up
1 small strawberry jello
Heat first three ingred. until melted and thickened. Take off heat and add jello. Let cool
chelsey says
It was yummy!!!!!! But instead of strawberry glaze I cut up my Strawberry’s and put sugar overthem. Let them sit in the fridge for a hour or so then put them over my cloud cake it was so good… The Strawberry’s get so juicy and sweet…… Thanks for the recipe……
Jennifer says
Awesome! I am so glad you liked it. 🙂
miranda g says
because I’m not usually a fan of Cloud cakes and to make it fit in the pan better, I cut the cake in half and laid them flat. It works well if you don’t have a deeper dish available. My son’s dad loves strawberries so this should work out well. Thank you.
Felicia says
Have you tried making this with the Little Debbie Strawberry Shortcake rolls?
Jennifer says
I have not tried that!

Brandi Clevinger says
I didn’t know what a cloud cake is, but after reading the other comments I see that it’s similar to a twinkie. I’ve never had a twinkie before, but this looks really good! tahnks for sharing your recipe at Inspire Me Mondays.
Sandy says
I just found this recipe. Going to make it for supper’s dessert tonight only going to do it with bananas and strawberry glaze. Also going to try it with banana twinkies. I have those on hand.
Aubrey says
Did you use a full tub of strawberry glaze? per 14 cloud cakes? I am doing this for girls camp which there will be around 40 people there, let me know thanks!
Jennifer says
Hi Aubrey! I did use one of the tubs per 9 x 13 dish. If you are feeding 40 people, you may want to make 3 or 4 of these. Whomever eats this will be coming back for seconds. 🙂
Ella says
can u make more then one layer? if so should i put whip cream on top of the first layer?
Jennifer says
I would use a trifle dish for making multiple layers, I bet that will be delicious!
Kandace says
WoW Oh WoW I can’t wait to make this very easy delicious strawberry dessert! Perfect for summertime fun. Thanks for sharing.
Samantha says
Hello! I was wondering where to find the strawberry glaze?
Jennifer says
I can find it in the produce section next to the strawberries at my local grocery store.
Brenda says
Can you make the cloud cake 24 hrs in advance or would it get to soggy?
Jennifer says
I would make it when you need it, which doesn’t take long. You could always speed things up and precut the strawberries the day before. I think it would get a little soggy, but I have had leftovers and they were not THAT soggy. But there was a difference between freshly made and the day after from the fridge. Still AWESOME! 🙂
Karen says
I made this yesterday for the 4th of July. It tasted great & everyone loved it!!! I put it together maybe 1 hour before we ate & left in fridge, when I took it out the Redi Whip had kind of disappeared. So, if you decide to use Redi Whip instead of Cool Whip, you may want to put it on just before serving.
Jennifer says
That’s awesome Karen! So glad you loved it. That’s a great tip on the ready whip! If serving later, I would probably sub cool whip. 🙂
Charlotte says
What is a cloud cake? Is it a Twinkie?
Jennifer says
YES! They are basically the same thing. I just used a different brand and they are called Cloud Cakes.
Kathleen says
Can you make Strawberry cloud cake the day before?
Jennifer says
Hey! Yes you can, but it only takes a few minutes to make. I would not make it the day before just so the cloud cakes don’t get too soggy from the strawberry glaze. But if you don’t mind that, you can totally make it the day before. If you can, just take 5 minutes the day of and you will be good to go! It’s really fast to put together. To speed things up, you could always cut the strawberries the day before. Everything else is just tossing it in a dish 🙂
