Frozen air fryer sweet potato fries are an excellent last-minute dinner side dish option, and they’re a low-calorie alternative to greasy french fries. On the outside, the air fryer crisps the sweet potato fries to perfection, while remaining soft on the inside. It takes less than 20 minutes in the air fryer; that’s less than half the time it would take in the oven!

Air fryers are great for cooking almost anything, including sweet potato fries! Frozen sweet potato fries can be easily cooked in the air fryer. The best thing about it is that they don’t need to be pre-cooked or fried before putting them into the air fryer.

Just open a bag of your favorite sweet potato fries, (I use Ore-Ida), and you’ll have a crispy, crunchy, tasty side dish perfect for the whole family in no time at all.

I’m guilty of cooking a lot of frozen foods. One of my guilty pleasures is Air Fryer Hot Pockets. They’re so good and always hit the spot!

The idea of cooking frozen sweet potato fries in an air fryer might seem strange at first, but it works, and they are so delicious! Another great thing about using an air fryer is that it cooks the fries without heating your kitchen.

Air frying uses rapid air circulation technology to cook food quickly at lower temperatures, which reduces fat absorption by two-thirds compared with deep-fat frying.

Why You’ll Love Should Make These Frozen Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries

  • Easy peasy – The air fryer does 99% of the work for you.
  • Clean up is done in a snap with air fryer recipes
  • Air fryer cooking is healthier than deep-frying
  • Cooking frozen sweet potato fries in the air fryer is super fast!

How to Make Frozen Sweet Potato Fries in the Air Fryer

Step 1. Preheat the Air Fryer to 400 degrees F for 3-5 minutes. Prepare the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray, olive oil, or avocado oil.

Step 2. Add the frozen sweet potato fries to the bottom of the air fryer basket. Make sure the fries have enough room between them to allow the air to circulate.

Step 3. Air Fry sweet potato fries at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 17-19 minutes, shaking the basket every 5-6 minutes.

Step 4. Carefully remove the sweet potato fries from the air fryer basket and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Storage

Although sweet potato fries are best served fresh out of the air fryer, you can refrigerate any leftovers you may have for up to 3 days in an airtight container.

The best way to reheat leftover sweet potato fries is to put them back in the air fryer at 400 degrees for 2 to 3 minutes or until heated all the way through.

Tips For Making Air Fryer Frozen Sweet Potato Fries

  • Make sure not to overfill your air fryer basket. Overfilling the air fryer basket will not allow air to circulate properly and will result in unevenly cooked fries.
  • Do not defrost sweet potato fries before cooking. This will ensure that all fries start cooking at the same temperature.

What To Serve/Pair With Your Air Fryer Frozen Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet Potato fries go with practically everything! Serve them as an appetizer, or alongside other air fryer favorites like wings, grilled chicken tenders, or even some savory steak kabobs! Finish off your meal with a decadent no-bake chocolate eclair cake.

Air Fryer Frozen Sweet Potato Fries FAQs

Do I preheat the air fryer before putting the sweet potato fries in?

Yes. Preheat your air fryer at 400 degrees for 2 to 3 minutes before putting fries in. This will ensure constant and even cooking.

Are Sweet Potato Fries Gluten-free?

Most brands of frozen sweet potatoes are gluten-free. The Oe-Ida brand this recipe uses are gluten-free. If you have a gluten intolerance, be sure to check the labels to make sure you are the brand you buy doesn’t contain gluten.

Can I use my oven instead of the air fryer for this recipe?

Yes, you absolutely can use your oven instead of an air fryer. Just grease a baking sheet and bake them for about 35 minutes at 400F or until they are golden brown on top. You might have to make some adjustments to cooking time, but it will work out just fine if you don’t happen to own an air fryer!

Do I use any oil on the fries?

No, adding oil to your sweet potato fries will result in a very mushy fry. I suggest not using any oil to keep your sweet potato fries nice and crispy.

What seasonings do I add to my frozen sweet potato fries?

These fries are so delicious they don’t need any seasonings, but if you want to add a little more flavor, I suggest a little salt and other seasonings like onion powder, garlic powder, or Italian seasoning.

Can I stack sweet potato fries in the air fryer basket?

Yes, you can stack frozen sweet potato fries. Just make sure that you don’t fill the basket over halfway. Make sure to shake the air fryer basket every 5 minutes to keep the fries cooking evenly.

Will this recipe work for freshly cut sweet potatoes?

Yes. In this instance, I would add oil to the sweet potatoes before cooking, and this will help make the freshly cut sweet potatoes crispy on the outside. You will also need to adjust the cooking time for the thickness of fresh-cut sweet potatoes.
