It’s no secret that homemade pancakes are the best. Eating them warm right off the griddle, covered in syrup and butter…is something that will make your mouth water over and over again.
The good news? These Dr. Seuss pancakes aren’t hard to make at all. Once you showcase your skills, they’ll be a staple in the breakfast meal rotation.
How to Make Dr. Seuss Pancakes

Ingredients needed for Dr. Seuss Pancakes
This recipe is so simple and if you use a mixer, it’s even simpler!
2 1/2 cups of flour
3/4 teaspoon of salt
2 Tablespoons of baking powder
3 heaping Tablespoons of sugar
2 1/4 cups of milk
3/4 cup of oil
2 eggs – beaten
Red food coloring gel black food coloring gel
Blue icing – (store-bought works fine – just melt in the microwave for a few seconds)
Whipped cream
Whipped Cream Ingredients:
3 Tablespoons of cream cheese – softened
8 ounces of heavy cream
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1/2 cup of powdered sugar
TIP FOR MAKING EASY DR. SEUSS PANCAKES
YOU MIGHT BE THINKING THIS IS WAY TOO MANY STEPS. If that’s what you are thinking than do this instead…
- Use store-bought pancake mix (boxed)
- Make 3 batches (1 for each color)
- Add your food coloring
- Purchase cool whip or whipped cream from the grocery store and add that to the top
- Drizzle them with icing and voila!
Your Dr. Seuss Pancakes are ready in 10 minutes. And they taste delicious!

In a large bowl, break the eggs, and beat them with a whisk until they’re light lemon yellow, and fluffy. Add the milk, and stir.
Add the oil, salt, and sugar, and whisk together.
Add the flour and baking powder, and whisk together just until ingredients are mixed. (Batter may be a little lumpy, but that’s okay)

Divide your batter equally in three bowls. In one bowl, add 1/4 teaspoon of red food coloring gel, and stir to blend. If the color is not bright enough, add more food coloring, a little at a time until the desired color is achieved.
In another bowl, add 1/4 teaspoon of black food coloring, and stir to blend. If the batter is not dark enough, add more food coloring gel until the desired color is achieved. In the third bowl, just leave the batter the original color.
Heat an electric griddle or your favorite pancake pan until the butter melts and sizzles.
With the heat on a medium setting, drop the batter for the red pancakes with a ladle, and cook until golden brown. Drop the batter for the black pancakes with a small ladle, or small measuring cup.
Dr. Seuss Themed Food

Drop the batter for the white pancakes, and cook until golden brown. Flip the pancakes with a pancake turner, and remove to a plate to serve, alternating the red, black and white pancakes.
Continue this step, until all the pancakes have been cooked. When all your pancakes have been cooked and plated, serve with a dollop of whipped cream on top, and drizzle blue icing from the top down the sides. (see photo) Enjoy!

How to Make Whipped Cream:
In the mixing bowl of a stand mixer, cream the cream cheese with 2 Tablespoons of cream, until smooth.
Scrape down sides of mixing bowl, and mix on high until stiff peaks form. Turn off the mixer, and place it in the refrigerator until time to use.

This is a wonderful way to serve pancakes and read a story at the same time. These pancakes are not only delicious, but they’re sure to become a favorite memory for children, as their breakfast will be inspired by what they’re reading or hearing.
