Ingredients You Need

To produce this heartwarming, comforting dinner, you will only need to gather four very simple things. Most likely most of what you need will already be in your pantry and fridge.

  • Pork chops (Boneless or bone-in): Use either type you prefer. Make certain that the chops are thick enough to last through the hours in the slow cooker.
  • Apples (Granny Smith & Honeycrisp): These two varieties retain their form better than softer types when cooked for longer periods of time.
  • Brown sugar: Rich, caramelized sweetness coats the pork and apples evenly due to brown sugar.
  • Ground cinnamon: Only a little bit of cinnamon adds warmth to all the great, cozy flavors.

How to Make It

This easy to prepare sweet and savory pork dinner will be ready when you get home from work. Here’s how to put it together using your crockpot.

Prepare the Apples

First chop the core out of your apples then cut them into equal sized wedges. Leave the skin on the apples or take it off whichever way you prefer.

Layer the Pork

Next place the pork chops in one layer on the bottom of your slow cooker. They may have some slight overlapping of each other but this is okay.

Add the Toppings

Then add your chopped apples evenly across the pork chops. Then sprinkle your brown sugar and cinnamon on top of both the pork and the apples.

Slow Cook

Close the lid on your crock pot. Cook on low for 6-7 hours, or until the pork chops are tender and done cooking.

Serve Warm

Remove the pork chops from the crock pot carefully and serve on plates. Then pour the soft, flavored apples along with the juices from the bottom of the pan that was produced while cooking over the top of the pork chops.

Tips for Success

  • Seared pork chops in a hot skillet for just a couple of minutes will give them more taste.
  • You can make sure that your apples don’t break down into applesauce as much as possible by cutting them into larger pieces.
  • The best type of apple to use would be a tart apple such as a Granny Smith to perfectly balance the sweetness of the brown sugar.
  • When closing your crock pot cover, make sure to seal it well so that all of the moisture stays inside and keeps your meat nice and tender.
  • If your sauce is too runny, mix a little bit of cornstarch with water and add it to the sauce during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

Storage Instructions

  • Store: Store any leftover pork and apples in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze: Store the cooked pork chops and apples in a sealed plastic bag in your freezer for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before warming.
  • Reheat: Warming in the microwave or in a covered skillet over low heat until warmed.

Serving Suggestions

  • Make sure to serve your pork and apples with creamy mashed potatoes so that you can absorb all of those delicious cinnamon flavors.
  • Give your meal a boost by adding roasted Brussels sprouts or steamed green beans.
  • Bring a warm dinner roll or a piece of crusty bread to the table to enjoy with your meal.
  • Turn your meal into a fun dessert by placing the additional cooked apples on top of a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
