Hocus Pocus Cupcake Ingredients & Supplies
Ok, here’s my awesome hocus pocus cupcake recipe. First, you’ll need these ingredients and supplies:
Spellbook Brownie Ingredients
- 1 large Pillsbury chocolate chunk brownie package (Found at sam’s club) or any other boxed chocolate brownies
- 1 two-inch rectangle cookie cutter
- 1 tube of black cake frosting
- 1 disposable piping bag fitting with #4 tip
- 1 package of Wilton small eyeball icing transfers
- 1 large cookie sheet fitted with parchment paper
Hocus Pocus Cupcake Ingredients
- 1 chocolate cake mix
- 1 ¼ cups milk
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup unsalted sweet cream butter (softened)
Homemade Vanilla Frosting Ingredients
- 1 1⁄2 C unsalted sweet cream butter, softened
- 4 1⁄2 powdered sugar
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 4 tbsp heavy whipping cream
- Neon Green gel food coloring
- Purple gel food coloring
- 1 large piping bag fitted with open star tip (Wilton 4B)
- 1 medium piping bag fitted with a star tip (Ateco 823)
- 1 package of Wilton Sprinkle Pouch, green
*OPTIONAL – Use your favorite premade icing
Step by Step Halloween Cupcake Instructions
Once you’ve gathered all the ingredients and supplies, follow these step-by-step instructions to create your very own gorgeous hocus pocus cupcakes with spellbook brownies on top.
You’re going to love these!
Spellbook Brownie Instructions
- First, using the cookie cutter, cut out 22 rectangle brownies and place them on the cookie sheet fitted with parchment paper.
- Then, fill the piping bag with the cake frosting.
- Using the piping bag, pipe a small dollop of frosting on the back of the edible eyes. Place the eye onto the brownie.
- Then, using the piping bag again, pipe a squiggly line on the side opposite of the eye to create the “spine” of the spellbook.
- Next, pipe a line and then a squiggly line over the straight line next to the spine. Check the picture for help.
- Then, pipe half circle on the corners of the brownie “book.”
- Pipe two dollops on the book.
- Repeat these steps with the other brownie rectangles. Then, set them aside while you make your hocus pocus cupcakes.



Hocus Pocus Cupcake Instructions
- First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line the cupcake pan with liners.
- Then, using a large bowl and hand mixer, beat all ingredients until combined.
- Next, scoop the mixture into the cupcake liners, filling about ¾ way full.
- Bake in the oven for 21 minutes before removing. Finally, allow your cupcakes to cool completely.

Vanilla Frosting Instructions
- Using a standing mixer, or large bowl and hand mixer, beat the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy whipping cream until combined, smooth and stiff peaks form.
- Next, scoop about 1 ½ cup of frosting into another bowl and mix in a few drops of the purple food coloring.
- Then, add a few drops of neon green into the main bowl of frosting.
- Scoop 1 ½ cups of the green frosting into one side of the medium piping bag.
- Next, scoop the purple frosting into the other side of the medium piping bag.
- Finally, scoop the remaining green frosting into the large piping bag.

How To Decorate Hocus Pocus Cupcakes
- First, using the large piping bag, pipe a ring around the top of the cupcakes.
- Then, sprinkle some of the green sprinkles on top.
- Next, using the medium piping bag with the two frosting colors, pipe a medium-size dollop in the middle of the frosting.
- Finally, carefully place the spellbook brownie on the swirled frosting.
- Enjoy a delicious chocolatey hocus pocus cupcake or two.
